Question: How long will it take to build links to my site and
pages?
Answer:
That's a good question :)
The reality is, links cannot be created too fast, even using
technology like NextGenLinks.com.
It's not the creation of the links themselves that takes time.
Hundreds of links could be created in seconds if we wanted to,
what's important is the way the search engines look at the overall
progression and link structure of your site as it grows naturally.
Being indexed by the
search engines is not enough, being ranked high in their index is
what you need.
Search engines look at many factors to determine where they want to
place you in their search results (index). Some are on page factors and some
are off page factors. The on page factors are obvious, meta tags,
header tags, internal linking structure, content, keywords, layout
etc. This accounts for about 20% of the decision.
The most important factors are the off page factors that you have
very little control of, directly...
For example, search engines look at a users behavior once they are
on your site as the most important indicator of the quality of your
site. The link that the user came from is also important, but it is
a secondary consideration.
First they will look to see how long the user stays on the your
page. Then they will look to see if the user follows an internal
link to another page on your site or if they leave your site. This
information is used to gauge the relevance of the link that led them
to your page, for example was the anchor text of the link relevant
to the page it sent the user to, if so the link is given some
"weight", if the user left the page immediately, then the link is
given less weight based on the assumption that the user was not
happy with what they found on the page. The link was misleading,
unclear or the page itself was poor quality.
All of this just to consider the validity of the link, and there's
alot more involved we didn't even talk about.
Here's an interesting article I wrote on
how search
engines really work for a more indepth look.
But what does this have
to do with how long it takes to get links?
Well, I wanted to make
sure you understand that the search engines are very smart and
complex programs that look at many different aspects of your
websites growth. Remember, the only point to a search engine is to
provide high quality and very relevant results to the users
conducting searches in their portals. The better the results, the
more users select them as their search engine of choice and the more
money they make through advertising. It's always about the money in
the end :)
So, among many other
things, because the search engines use the incoming and outgoing
links on your pages to assign, in Google's case pagerank, the search
engines want to make sure that the links to your sites are very
relevant to the content, that the links are real and created by
humans and that the links are created in a realistic time frame.
Based on these factors,
and a few others, we have designed a system that builds links to
your pages in a slow, very random fashion that you do have full
control over.
We use the keywords and
semantic synonyms of your page to find relevant pages in the system
to initiate the linking process, then we use the title of each page
as anchor text for relevancy, and the description of the link is
taken from the meta description of the page or from the content of
the page itself which gives the link a further dose of relevancy and
assures the visitor clicking on the link knows exactly what is on
the other end of it, which means when they get to your page they
will spend more time on it.
We also make sure that the page linking to your page is not linked
back to directly from the same page, so the links are true one
way links. Some webmasters still consider these links as an
exchange or even three way link, but they really are not. It's
unfortunate that search engines keep their information so secret and
cryptic, it creates a lot of misinformation. But we have tested this
exhaustively and we have real SEO professionals that have studied
search engine behavior for years and attended Search Engine
conferences speaking directly to the engineers that design search
engines, myself included. So when we say we know how they work,
we're within 80-90% sure and that's more than 80-90% of almost
anybody online :) We also limit the number of links placed on your
pages to 5 to ensure that your pages retain the most link juice
possible, while keeping the incoming number of links unlimited. Some
pages will get more than others, as it should be.
In conclusion...
We understand that most
webmasters want to see results immediately, but as with any
business, that's just not reality. This is why we priced
NextGenLinks.com within just about everyone's reach, because we know
it's going to take time to build up the link reputation of your
site, it's going to take time to add quality content and most
importantly, it's going to take time for the search engines to
recognize and reward you for it.
So here's what you can
expect to see in the coming months...
In Month 1:
Your site and all of it's inner pages will be added to the database. Each page will begin to slowly and naturally acquire high quality
incoming links on a day by day basis.
Some of these pages will start to appear on the search results of the major search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN.
Outgoing links will be added to your pages pointing to other very
relevant pages adding content.
By Month 3 : The more popular pages of your site will begin to gain Page
Rank which will trickle up to your homepage increasing the overall PR of your site.
You'll notice a substantial increase in traffic and more of you're pages being added to the top Search Engine Results Pages (SERP's).
The extra PR of your inner pages will increase the effectiveness of
your internal link structure by giving your internal links more
juice to play with.
By Month 5 : Your traffic will
begin to increase exponentially. More and more of your pages will be in the top results of the SERP's and you overall pagerank will be on the rise. Now you've started to see the benefit of becoming an authority site, you'll begin to receive link requests
from other webmasters, and content writers will want to add their
content to your site.
This a very realistic time frame and if anyone promises to do this
any faster, beware.
It
may take a bit longer depending on the quality of your site, but
keep in mind, no matter how many incoming links you ever get, if
your site cannot keep a visitor's attention, you will not get the
search engines attention :)
Once you sign up for NGL, we would be happy to take a look at your
site and offer suggestions and feedback on improving the quality and
link structure. We're here to help and we want you to be a happy
member with a popular site!
